FAQ

ASE previously required proof of vaccination OR negative test within 72 hours - why have you changed this?

With recent statistics on the current Omicron variant's rate of transference and the number of breakthrough cases among those who have been vaccinated, a negative COVID test presented within 72 hours of picking up your pass at registration provides additional consideration and safety measures for all our attendees, particularly those who are immunocompromised or elderly.

What if I can't get a COVID test where I live?

The Atlanta Steampunk Exposition will be working with Global 7 Diagnostics to provide on-site COVID testing all 3 days of the Exposition for all of our attendees. Global 7 provides a dual test, which is an antigen test with results in 15 minutes followed by a saliva PCR test with results in 48 hours. Registered guests will receive their test for free through their insurance or the government-funded program Cares Act.*

On-Site Testing Available

Friday (2/11): 2pm-8pm

Saturday (2/12): 9am-9pm

Sunday (2/13): 9am-1pm

We encourage everyone to take advantage of our onsite testing. Once negative test results are shown, you will be provided with a wristband to enter the venue. More details on how to register will be shared soon.

* Does it cost anything to take your on-site COVID test?

Global 7 provides one free COVID test through your insurance provider or the government-funded program Cares Act. These programs allow for every individual to have 1 free COVID test every 7 days. If you have already taken a COVID test within 7 days or wish to take more than one test, additional tests are provided for $25 per test.

Can I take a self test (otherwise known as a home test)?

In line with CDC recommendations, you can use a self-test (sometimes referred to as home test) that meets the following criteria:

  1. The test must be a SARS-CoV-2 viral test (nucleic acid amplification test [NAAT] or antigen test) with Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

  2. The testing procedure must include a telehealth service affiliated with the manufacturer of the test that provides real-time supervision remotely through an audio and video connection. Some FDA-authorized self-tests that include a telehealth service may require a prescription.

  3. The telehealth provider must confirm the person’s identity, observe the specimen collection and testing procedures, confirm the test result, and issue a report that includes:

  • Type of test (indicating it is a NAAT or antigen test)

  • Entity issuing the result (e.g. laboratory, healthcare entity, or telehealth service)

  • Specimen collection date. A negative test result must show the specimen was collected within the 3 days (72 hours) before pass pick up. A positive test result for documentation of recovery from COVID-19 must show the specimen was collected within the 3 months before the pass pick up.

  • Information that identifies the person (full name plus at least one other identifier such as date of birth or passport number)

  • Test Result

Do I still need to show proof of vaccination?

Vaccinations along with the booster shot are still the best defense against the spread of COVID, so we encourage all who are vaccinated to bring their proof of vaccination. For attendees 16 years and older, proof of vaccination can be shown either by a physical copy of your vaccination card or on a smartphone, along with your ID when picking up your Expo pass at registration. The name on the ID must match the name on the documentation. Any device photos or copies should be of a high enough quality that the information can be read easily. If the name on your ID is different from the name you bought your passes with, please bring along supporting documentation to show that the vaccine or test information matches the purchased pass information. In no case will records shown be retained by the Atlanta Steampunk Exposition.

Any adult who purchased their children’s memberships in the same transaction as their own will be authorized to show proof of vaccination (if over the age of 5) or a negative COVID test on their child’s behalf and pick up their pass.
